Toddler
Our Toddler Program encourages the development of independence, socialization, large motor skills, self-help skills, and language skills through group play. This is accomplished through hands-on activities which include dramatic play, art, blocks, books, simple games, and lots of opportunity to talk and have conversations with friends and teachers.
Our 1:5 ratio ensures individual attention and an opportunity for your child to explore the learning environment through materials and activities that have been specifically planned for their developmental age.
Preschool
Our Preschool Program offers a curriculum that emphasizes learning through play. The goal is to encourage your child’s natural curiosity and interest in learning.
The environment includes:
- Choice-making opportunities to support your child’s interests and strengths.
- A print-rich environment that puts your child on a path to reading.
- Books to learn about vocabulary and comprehension.
- Number activities that help your child count, sort, and identify numbers.
- Dramatic play activities that help your child take on roles, stimulate creative thinking, and see the viewpoints of others.
- Block play to encourage math skills, cooperation, and knowledge of shapes and sizes.
- Manipulatives to help build and develop fine motor skills.
Science activities that provide your child with opportunities for exploring and experimenting.
Pre-Kindergarten
The purpose of our Pre-Kindergarten Program is to prepare your child for success in Kindergarten. This adds another level of learning to our Toddler and Preschool classes. It offers a variety of choices within a carefully structured environment to allow for exploration and experimentation.
The curriculum is planned with a balance of child and teacher-initiated learning activities in mind and capitalizes on children’s developing interests in literacy. Activities are planned with a talk, read, and write literacy focus in mind.
The classroom is structured to allow for:
- Exploring books and book making activities to help your child build vocabulary and comprehension skills.
- Writing opportunities to reinforce that print has meaning.
- Math games and activities that provide opportunities to count, measure, sort, compare, and problem solve.
- Science activities to help your child learn basic scientific concepts.
- Blocks and manipulatives to help your child learn about shapes, colors, and sizes while developing fine motor muscles.
- Art projects to help support your child’s creative expression.
Curriculum
The most important goal of early childhood curriculum is to help children
become enthusiastic learners, encouraging them to be active and creative
explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own
thoughts. Our curriculum identifies goals in four areas of development:
- Social: To help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, understand and respect cultural diversity, and feel they are a part of the group.
- Emotional: To help children experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control, be able to identify, express, and accept their feelings, and have a positive attitude toward life.
- Cognitive: To help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.
- Physical: To help children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do.
The activities we plan for children, the way we organize the environment, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and talk with children, are all designed to accomplish the goals of our curriculum and give your child a successful start in school.
